Photo Archive

General Info

Photo Archive is the process of taking the actual Slide, Negative, or Print and scanning it to make it a Digital File. Once it is in a digital format you can store, share, or print it. I use a dedicated Slide scanner, Nikon Coolscan V ED to scan your negatives and Slide with up to 4000 dpi which equivalent to a 18 megapixel camera and have a 40" x 60" photo quality print. I also offer digital enhancements to help make your pictures look like new.

I'll be saving your photos in 2 different formats. TIFF and JPEG. I will put both formats onto a CD/DVD. Tiff is a lossless format meaning that no matter how many times you open and make a change, it will not lose its quality. Tiff is a large file. JPEG is a format that compresses the picture so it is easy to view on your computer and share with family and friends. The only problem with the JPEG format is that it will lose quality every time you open up the file. See the diagram below to see how many images you can fit onto a CD/DVD.

I bet your photos would look great in one of my photo book options. A great way to organize your photos and give as gifts to friends and family. Slide and Negatives Prices include Digital Ice. Click here to see a side by side comparisons.

35mm Processed Negative Scanning:

We've all said it before to friends, "Can I get a copy of that picture?" and how often does it actually happen? On a rare occasion maybe but if the film has already been developed then probably not. My wife had the brilliant idea of asking her friends for the negative, not that she ever got around to printing it out but I was able to scan it into the computer for her and now she has all of the pictures she wanted on a CD.

Some people have boxes of negatives, worried that they will one day lose their printed photos. Scanning a strip of negatives and putting it onto a DVD you can get rid of all those negatives and make extra copies to keep in a safe place like a safebox at the bank, just in case.

If you are worried about the safety of your memories found in each family photographs then you might want to safe guard against any loss that may occur. All prices include Digital Ice.
